Early Head Start

Early Head Start is a federally funded income based program for families with infants and toddlers, birth to three years of age and pregnant women, including teens that are pregnant.
Early Head Start’s mission is to promote healthy prenatal outcomes for pregnant women, enhance the development of very young children, and promote healthy family functioning.

Early Head Start services are available through two program options:
Center-Based
Supporting families who are working and/or attending school.
Location: Ashville Head Start Center, 97 Miller Ave., Ashville.
Hours: 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Mon.-Fri. (year round)
The classroom individualizes planning and activities by using the Creative Curriculum.
Home-Based
Office Location: 465 E. Ohio St., P.O. Box 697, Circleville.
EHS educators design individualized programs with families using the “Parents As Teachers” curriculum.
Families participate in weekly 90-minute child development focused home visits.
Families have the opportunity to participate in two Play Groups each month.
Early Head Start programs have the opportunity to impact children at risk for health and developmental problems by providing comprehensive services beginning in the prenatal period. These services include comprehensive prenatal and postpartum health care, prenatal education, and breastfeeding education.
Linking with community resources to assure: nutrition assessments • developmental screening and assessments • social and emotional screening and observations • parenting support and education • support to families in completing well-child exams and dental screenings • support to families with children who have special needs
